  • My routine Microbiology responsibilities include, reading routine cultures, Mycology, MRSA screening using Chromagar and Cepheid PCR for MRSA and Clostridium Difficile, Blood cultures using the Bactec System, and identification using Phoenix and epicenter computer. Serology responsibilities include RPR testing, H. Pylori testing along with Influenza by Cepheid PCR.
  • Experience with Evolis instrument testing for HIV, ANA, Vitamin D, and Quantiferon TB Gold. Routine Microbiology also includes quality control and maintenance of equipment, media, rapid and identification test kits and procedures.
  • I am responsible for inventory in the Microbiology laboratory. These responsibilities include, set up and implementation of the GIP inventory system, setting up standing orders quarterly and yearly, weekly inventory including refrigerated and storeroom items, and set up of new items in the GIP system (vendor information and pricing). I also have some knowledge of the contracting process.
  • Safety officer for the Microbiology lab for approximately 4 years. My responsibilities included updating MSDS sheets in the Microbiology lab and the storeroom (including all departments in the storeroom). Reviewing proper safety symbols and PPE for chemicals found in the laboratory. Set-up of PPE stations and proper safety in the Microbiology Laboratory. I was responsible for educating the Microbiology personnel of safety procedures and PPE at meetings. I performed Safety Inspections of the Pathology Laboratory, training in safety mask fitting, and implemented proper disposal of toxic chemicals in the Microbiology Laboratory to facilitate the hospitals GEMS program.
