  • Assigns extra-board Operators, Station Managers and Interlocking Operators to unassigned work and maintains daybook for all Operators, Station Managers and Interlocking Operators, when designated as Depot Clerk/Bookman. Assigns work in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements and in an efficient and economical manner.
  • Accountable for referring any Operator, Station Manager and/or Interlocking Operators to management if unfit to perform operating duties, because of appearance or physical condition.
  • Records Operators, Station Managers and Interlocking Operators absence and/or reporting late for assignments in the established system(s) of record.
  • Issues and collects manifests and notices to Operators, Station Managers and Interlocking Operators and collects said documents as required and/or requested.
  • Issues and accepts equipment from employees reporting on or off duty. Checks equipment to ensure that it is functioning and not damaged prior to issue or receipt.

Train Operator

  • Monitors all train operations in revenue and non-revenue service in accordance with the Metrorail Safety Rules and Procedures Handbook (MSRPH), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Permanent, Temporary Orders and Train Operations Guide and Procedural Checklist. Operates trains in Manual Mode and Automatic Train Operations, observing wayside signals and signs while monitoring the boarding and alighting of Metrorail customers.
  • Adheres to all issued schedules and headways, making pre-trip inspections of trains before entering mainline for revenue service. Provides customers with trip information by making Public Announcements at all station stops, informing them of the next station stop, transfer points, elevator outages and other pertinent information governed by the instructions of the ROCC, Road and Terminal Supervisors and Interlocking Operators at all times.
  • Reports all emergencies and unusual occurrences to ROCC, following all emergency procedures within the MSRPH, SOP’s, and Permanent and Temporary Orders. Provides frequent radio updates to ROCC during emergencies and makes public address announcements to customers.
  • Exercises prudent and good judgment under normal and emergency situations, while carrying out those duties necessary to ensure the safety of Metrorail customers, employees and equipment. Reports and troubleshoots minor train car related malfunctions on mainline in a timely manner, making adjustments to overcome problems and complete scheduled trips. Gives verbal reports to ROCC, Division Managers and Supervisors; and submits written reports after incidents and accidents or when requested.
  • Is governed by the instructions of the Interlocking Operators and Terminal Supervisors at all times. Per the instructions of the Interlocking Operator, completes yard and shop movements, and properly stores trains and cars on yard storage tracks.
  • Couples and uncouples trains as directed by the Interlocking Operator or Terminal Supervisor. Reports and troubleshoots minor car related malfunctions in the yard immediately, making adjustments to overcome problems and complete yard moves.
  • Operates trains to dispatching tracks for revenue service, conducts train and yard inspections and, when instructed, operates trains and cars through yard car washes. Makes Mainline transports from yard to yard or yard to mainline, and gives verbal and written reports to Interlocking Operators, Terminal Supervisors, and management as necessary.
  • Exercises prudent and good judgment in normal and emergency situations, carrying out those duties necessary to ensure the safety of Metrorail customers, employees, and equipment. Submits written reports after incidents and accidents, or when requested.
  • Works variable shifts and locations; prepares incident and other related necessary reports; assists in providing on-the-job instruction to new train operators, requests medical assistance for ill or injured customers.
