In 2010, I began a volunteer profession as a firefighter after having strong aspirations to be in the emergency services. I started at the age of 16 at the Hudlow Fire Department and I am still currently a member there.
In 2012, I graduated from R-S Central High School in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. During the common course of study, I also took many agricultural classes and electrical trades. I achieved a certification from The National Center for Construction Education and Research in my Electrical Trades class. I also was a "dual enrollee" in a program through Isothermal Community College where I attended college level Criminal Justice classes and earned credit toward an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice.
In 2012, I achieved my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification for the medical field of the emergency response services with the Hudlow Fire Department.
In 2012-2013 I worked part-time for a lawn care company that provided lawn care for residential and commercial lawns.
In 2012, I began working part-time for the Forest City Fire Department. In this job, I filled in shifts and assisted the full time firefighters with their daily duties. I also responded to many fire and medical emergency calls for service and filled in on shifts when full time members were out.
In 2012, obtained my Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to benefit me in driving various fire apparatus. I decided to get my Passenger and School Bus endorsements to operate a school bus as a part-time source of income. Shortly after obtaining my School Bus Operators License, I also became a substitute teacher as another part-time source of income while I was in school.
In 2013, I began Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Isothermal Community College. During the course of training I learned and studied criminal law and North Carolina General Statutes. I also learned lawful use of force and restraint, emergency driving, firearms, physical training, traffic direction, criminal investigation, first responders, haz-mat, and many other topics. Ethics was stressed throughout the BLET program, as was safety in performing the duties of a law enforcement officer. The emergency vehicle operations alone consisted of approximately forty (40) hours of training which stressed safe vehicle response and safe placement of the vehicle when becoming stationary.
On June 06, 2014, I began my career at the Forest City Police Department. While working with the Police Department, I earned many certifications in Driving While Impaired Recognition, Testing, and Convictions. I also received training in and earned certifications in Firearms, Officer Safety, and Crisis Intervention Training. I responded to a variety of calls from motor vehicle crash investigations, shootings, breaking and enterings, domestic violence calls, fights, shopliftings and many other variety of calls and investigations. I also did many school and business walk throughs to promote public relations with law enforcement. I provided lifesaving efforts on victims of violent crime and victims of accidents.
On March 14th, 2016, I left Forest City Police Department and began my career at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. I made the career change because of having county-wide jurisdiction instead of confined to just the Town of Forest City. With many of my responsibilities and duties at the Sheriff's Office being similar to those of the Police Department, there was more opportunities for career advancement.
During August of 2018, I was promoted to the Rutherford County Assistant Fire Marshal / Emergency Management Director. I currently hold this position which performs criminal fire investigations, disaster preparedness, and serves as an authoritative role in the management of county fire departments.
