First semester (Fall 2023):- For my first clinical rotation, I was placed on the Stroke at University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Institute (UMROI). I was only allowed to observe the nurses since this was my first clinical rotation.
Second semester (Spring 2024):- I had two clinical rotations this semester. My first rotation was on the IMC unit at University of Maryland Medical Center Downtown Campus (UMMC). During this rotation, I was assigned one patient every week and I was responsible for their care. My responsibilities included performing health assessments and documenting my findings , assisting my patients with their Activities of Daily Living and medication administration under the supervision of my instructor. My second rotation was at Food and Care for All, a food pantry for low income individuals, families and immigrants in Ellicott City. At Food and Care for All, I assisted patrons who came to the pantry find the food items that they needed and I also assisted Spanish speakers who did not speak English in filling out forms and answering any questions they had. I also collaborated with other Nursing students in creating educational materials for the patrons of the pantry.
Third Semester (Fall 2024):- I had three clinical rotations this semester. For my first rotation, I was placed on the Pediatric Progressive Care Unit (PPCU) at UMMC Downtown Campus. I was also assigned a patient every week to care for. Depending on their age, I either performed or assisted the patients with their Activities of Daily Living. I also performed assessments, documented my findings and administered medications and feedings under the supervision of my instructor. I also provided comfort for babies who needed it. My second rotation was on the Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby units at UMMC Downtown Campus. On Labor and Delivery, I provided non-pharmacological pain relief for patients in labor and assisted the nurse in getting supplies for births. During births, I was only allowed to observe. In the Mother-Baby unit, I was assigned a patient to care for under the supervision of my instructor. In the Mother-Baby unit, I performed assessments on both the newborn and the mother, documented findings, assisted mothers with Activities of Daily Living if they needed and provided education on sitz baths. I also administered medications under the supervision of my instructor. My third rotation was on a Psychiatric Unit at Sheppard Pratt Towson Campus. At Sheppard Pratt, I was allowed to observe patients, had conversations with them and also observe group activities. I also participated in group activities.
Fourth semester (Spring 2025):- This was my final semester of Nursing School and I also had two clinical rotations. My senior practicum rotation was Georgetown Day School in Washington DC. At Georgetown Day School, I observed and assisted the School Nurse in providing care for the students. I also administered medications under the supervision of my instructor and documented their care. My other rotation was at Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore. At this clinical, my instructor and I performed blood pressure screenings for the general public. I also provided education on the importance of monitoring blood pressure and helped people find other resources at the library.
