Nasiru is an experienced human rights civil society advocate and researcher. He has a strong background in research and policy analysis, including authorship of Freedom-House and USAID reports. He has also successfully led advocacy efforts in promoting free speech, press freedom, and access to information in The Gambia.
Successfully researched and authored two published 'Freedom on the Net' Country Reports. Proactively monitored and measured the subtle and not-so-subtle ways that governments and non-state actors restrict human rights online.
Successfully coordinated programs within the UNDEF Access the Information project which culminated in the enactment of the first Access to Information legislation in The Gambia. Implemented several campaigns and programs that promote free speech, media rights, and accountable governance in The Gambia.
Contributed to the advancement of digital rights and inclusion in Africa by producing a comprehensive country report on Gambia. The report, a key component of the Londa Digital Rights and Inclusion in Africa Report, covers crucial elements such as hate speech, access to information, and digital exclusion.
Produced comparative research on constitutionalism, human rights, and governance processes, providing valuable inputs to the drafting of The Gambia's Draft Constitution.
