Perform supervisory utility plant operation work.
Directs staff engaged in operating water and wastewater treatment plants.
Train operators to carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to deal with recurring situations.
Monitors, operates, and maintains wells and wastewater treatment plants according to federal, state, and local government permit regulations.
Evaluates the waste treatment facility by interpreting hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly operational and mechanical data to optimize the operation of the treatment and well facilities.
Trains and evaluates employees on various items, including policies, operational theory, laboratory techniques, permit regulations, safety practices, and plant specifications.
Maintains and supervises plant operational data, and other important information required by federal, state, and local regulations and permits.
Monitors and operates the Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) alarm system, and phone systems during the evening hours and weekends for the Charles County Department of Utilities.
Directly supervise six operators.
Directly manage a Sequence Batch Reactor (SBR) Wastewater Treatment Plant, Cliffton WWTP, six sewage pump stations, a Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant, and eight small water systems.
Make process adjustments to the plant and wells as necessary for optimum operation.
Performs minor mechanical maintenance, including cleaning pumps, and adjusting pump packing.
Collects and analyzes samples of plant process flow from influent to effluent to include, but not limited to: pH, D.O., titration, MLSS, MLVSS, NH3, NO3, PO4, COD, settleometer, free and total chlorine, and interprets results.
Proficient in extending or rewiring basic power cords to various pumps and equipment.
Valve adjustments and isolations.
Perform calculations and compose reports.
The ability to hear, see, and smell abnormal conditions.
Ability to follow clear, written, and oral instructions.
Ability to differentiate between normal and abnormal conditions of equipment and processes.
Ability to work as part of a team, or independently.
Ability to operate company vehicles.
Maintains the cleanliness of the workstation and areas.
Effective communication with senior management regarding any equipment failures or unusual occurrences.
Proficient with Water Information Management System (WIMS), INFOR, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), NETDMR, and Outlook.
Basic skills with Microsoft Office.
Manage a daily expense budget of $2500.00.
Proficient in generating purchase order requests.
Order supplies and equipment from various vendors in the United States.
Manage contractors while performing work at the waste plant and wells.
Maintains procurement records.
Proficient at sending emails and calendar invites on Outlook.
Equipment: HACH HQD Benchtop pH/mV Meter, Titration, HACH DR3900 Spectrophotometer, HACH DR300 Chlorine Meter, HACH CL-17 Chlorine Analyzer, Fisher Scientific CLX Chlorine Analyzer, YSI Pro 20i Dissolved Oxygen Meter, and High School Level Microscope.
