When I first started working I was only 14. I decided after COVID had hit us that I did not want to sit in the house and go to waste all day, so I asked my mom and the school to help me get a workers permit and I started with a part time job at IHOP on the weekends. I maintained the job, but it was not making all of my ends meet, nor was it keeping me busy enough, so then a took up another position while at IHOP teaching swim lessons at the YMCA. It started as a summer position, teaching lessons for campers during the day then I graduated to group lessons inside during the other seasons, until eventually I was teaching my own lessons at some point! But after awhile, I got a job at walmart in 2021 and I left IHOP, but still maintained my job at the YMCA. After awhile though, I slowly became soley a Wal-Mart associate where I've learned a lot of communication and customer service skills I have started to outgrow the environment and I feel that it is time for a change!
I was initially hired as an apparel associate back in 2021. Now that I have been there for almost five years I know how to manage work in other departments as well as get done the tasks assigned to me in my own department. Some days/nights I would come into work and I was the only associate in the apparel department and I would be asked by a member of management to cover the electronics as well, where I would tend to customers behind the counter, or stock the shelf's with items from the truck or the back room. They did not have enough employees to work the night shift at the time. In 2024, I am a cross trained associate in quite a few departments in the store like, electronics, digital, deli/bakery and stocking, as well as my initial department; apparel.
I currently work in the deli, I work the early morning shift where, we run the freight(items on the sales floor) from the night truck in deli coolers as well as frozen items from the bakery. I also open the deli which includes, slicing meats and cheese for online orders, labeling and stocking the pre-sliced meats and cheese. I set up the kitchen, start the fryers, attend to customers, and put the first set of chickens in the oven as well as cooking the breakfast food !
I taught swim lessons to anyone from ages infant to senior citizen, and back in October of 2022 I took my classes and became a certified lifeguard.
I stood at the hostess stand and I sat customers at their tables. At times I would serve them their food and drinks and I would also take over the phone orders.
